"Love of and identification with my

native place is a powerful force" (O' Carroll)

“Everything I write is influenced in some way by my Kerryness

Where every field, stream, path, tree, well, cave, hillside, plain, bay or inlet

bears a name evoking memories of ancient or more recent feuds, raids, battles  invasions, conquest, love, betrayal, reprisal, honour, heroism.

Where every stone marks a noble burial, a territorial claim, an astronomical measure,

Where myth, legend, history and folklore cohabit.

Where the past is forever present, the present inexorably shapes the future.

This is Kerry – Ciar-Raí (The Kingdom of Ciar)"

- Aidan O’ Carroll
