Welcome to my composer website. I have worked all my professional life in music education - piano, voice and composition teacher, choral and orchestral conductor, music school founder and principal. I've also directed or musically directed musical theatre productions   

 

This website brings you another side of me - Aidan O' Carroll the composer. Since I first began experimenting with composition during my time in University College Cork, it has been a constant in my life. 

 

You'll find here a sizeable number of original works for different combinations of voices and instruments. Most of the works were written on commission for specific occasions, for individuals or for various groups of performers -orchestras and/or choirs with whom I've been associated over the years. Some others such as my large-scale setting of Brian Merriman's Cúirt an Mheán Oíche (The Midnight Court) are awaiting premieres.  

 

There are links to audiovisual samples and perusal scores of quite a few of these as well as excerpts from live recordings from as far back as 1979. I hope you find something of interest.
